The International Boxing Club was the venue for, not only the big announcement, but for an exciting, early evening ten bout card today (May 19). Tensions were running high as bad blood, and bad feelings permeated the atmosphere.
First bout up featured the 350 lb, Sam Cade taking on Rob Frost. This was a total squash, as Cade destroyed his much smaller foe in just about a minute.
Next up the "Master Mind," rendered Christian Saint, into a martyr, with a choke-hold in quick time. Squash matches seem to be the order of the day as, next bout featured a tag sq,uash, as "The Legion," Nitro and Malice, utterly destroyed their opponents, Terry Homewood, and Mikey Smalls.
(It was beginning to appear as though this could be a fast show!)
Fortunately, the next bout was a little more even! "Handsome," Chris Korvis (accompanied to the ring by Dr. Jerry Graham, Jr.) took on the Great Akuma. The two combatants fought on even terms, until Graham slipped his client a "foreign object." This led to Korvis gaining a "tainted" victory! Graham is clearly back in more familiar (and comfortable) territory as a "heel" manager.
Match number five was a return to the squash bout as "Maniac" Buzz Manson made short work of Dash Damone.
Next up, was Tara Khan taking on local favorite," Pretty Boi" Diamond Couture. Khan's character is clearly derived from "Kamala--The Ugandan Giant. After some lively action, from both men, Diamond was awarded the win, via disqualification, when Khan's manager interfered on his client's behalf. The two continued to inflict punishment on Diamond until Buzz Manson made the save.
Last match (#7) before the intermission, saw Sebastian Rose, succesfully defend the soon to be defunct, CIW title against a strong challenger in fast rising Austin Mannix.
After the break, Crimson took on both Bryan Castle, and, I think, Andrew Lee (his name was never announced). Crimson attacked Castle from behind as he made his way to the ring. Thus causing Castle to lie on the outside of the ring, while Crimson could focus his bad intentions on the, very much smaller, Lee.
In the nick of time Castle entered the fray and used Crimson's own infamous "red mist" to secure the win, and gain a measure of revenge for being victimized by Crimson, and his red mist, on a previous card.
Match number 9, was again one with a bit of history behind it, as Andrew Chene had previously cut off D-Ray3000's famous Afro. For this event, partnered with the underrated Sean Casey, and accompanied by the ubiquitous Dr. Jerry Graham, he brought a long a framed mounting of some of D-ray's hair, and the scizzors used to cut that hair;
D-Ray, and partner Will Studd were not amused by this supposed "peace offering Graham and his charges" Neither was their adviser, Bobo Brazil, Jr.! Quickly, the battle was on. Graham attempted to interfere, and the "peace offering" was introduced as a weapon by Graham and company ( who were disqualified) but Studd and D-Ray soon commandeered it to wreak havoc on their tormentors. This is where things reall broke down. graham was floored by Brazil, and Casey and Cheney turned on one another in a melee that required several security staff to squelch.
The last bout of the night was a grudge match pitting Nate Mattson and Benjamin Boone against The Legion. Mattson came out alone, and held his own for quite some time against Nitro, and Malice. Eventually; however, the numbers game began to take it's toll on Mattson.
When Legion began to punish the beleaguered Mattson with a chair, a furious Benjamin Boone, head and eye swathed in bandages, ran into the ring and Mattson's aid. Boone gained control of the chair, and soon drew blood from one of the Legion! I am not even sure of the decision (though I think Mattson and Boone got the nod!) as a wild melee erupted, with even ring announcer, Norm Wamer getting involved!
Next show will be June 23rd, at the same venue. There will be four corners match, with Sebastian Rose (CIW champion), Andrew Chene (PCW champion), Sean Casey, and, D-Ray 3000, competing for the newly minted "NWA-CIW Midwest Championship." There will also be a six man "tornado match" to select a challenger for NWA heavyweight champion, Rob Conway. Should be a great card!
